Ok, I think I may 'get' RSS and now Atom (echo, NEcho,...), but is there a fundamental problem this and other similar efforts are not addressing? Namely, there is no metadata associated with pages. Yeah, I know about the html header tags, but I mean about real contextual metadata that can be accessed by automated processes and can be repurposed. For example, if something like URIQA were being used would we need RSS? Want to query about a site, access it in a metadata access mode, and get back something you can filter and use in your own way, which could be with rudimentary RSS or some Ontological compsci mad scientist cortical explosion.
